The Beatles Coming To iTunes

iTunesPaul McCartney was recently quoted telling Billboard.com that a deal to make the Beatles catalog available on iTunes was “virtually settled.” For many months now there have been rumors of the Beatles catalog coming to iTunes, but this is the first time the news has come directly from a Beatles member.

You may be wondering why this is such big news. Well, besides the fact that the Beatles music isn’t currently available anywhere online to purchase legally, Apple, Inc. and the Beatles music publisher, Apple Corps, had a long legal battle over the use of the name Apple. The dispute was recently settled and the two are now working together to make this deal possible.

Is it really worth the time and effort to sell a broken iPod? We recently ran across BuyMyBrokeniPod.com, a service that buys broken iPods directly from users, and we we’re surprised by the amounts offered for broken iPods. While older generation iPods go for as little as $3, you can fetch between $44 to $55 for a broken 5th generation video iPod. Not bad for something that most people may consider worthless.

BuyMyBrokeniPod.com wants to buy your broken iPod today! We pay you top dollar for your damaged Apple iPod MP3 Player. We don’t care if the iPod has a cracked screen, the hard drive busted or shows a sad face, buttons don’t work, is acting weird, is old and creepy, has water damage, or if the battery is dead. Click below to get a price quote, and in 3 easy steps turn your broken iPod into CASH!

The service seems to be pretty straightforward - fill out their form detailing your iPod model and issues, ship them the broken iPod, and then get paid through PayPal. This means that your mailing out your iPod before you get paid, but if you get a tracking number to document the shipment, then you should be OK. And if your iPod is otherwise worthless, why not give it a shot?

6th Generation iPods To Have WiFi?

Will the 6th generation iPods have built in WiFi capabilities similar to the Microsoft Zune mp3 player? Reports are coming in today that this may be the case. Engadget seems to think it’s a strange move putting WiFi in the iPod when its one of the more desired features of the iPhone, something that could hurt or slow iPhone sales.

Will Apple embrace the WiFi sharing feature sooner, rather than later? Looks like we’ll have to wait until Q3 of 2007 to find out.

Play Nintendo NES Games On Your iPod

Did you know that you can play Nintendo NES games on your iPod? iNES is a port of another NES emulator called InfoNES to the iPod to allow *legal* NES ROMS to be played on the iPod. Currently there are about 6 games that work with it in fullscreen mode. The 5.5G video iPod, 5G video iPod, iPod photo, and the 1G iPod nano all work with iNES, but it’s a little sketchy on the older iPod photo models. iNES uses iPodLinux so it’s a little bit of a hack and probably not for novices.

For more information on iNES you can view their Wiki page.

The Best Headphones And Earbuds For iPods

After spending a few hundred dollars on an iPod should you spend a little more money on some nicer headphones or earbuds? We’ve been asking ourselves this for awhile, so we recently put some different earbuds and headphones to the test. First off, we want to say that we think earbuds and headphones serve different purposes. If your somewhere noisy, like a plane or a car, we’ve found headphones to be much more appropriate. If your walking around a city and want something as small as possible to fit in your pockets, this is where earbuds come in handy. For our complete review of the models we tested keep reading below.

The standard Apple Earbuds

Apple EarbudsThese are the standard earbuds from Apple that come standard with iPods. Is there anything terribly wrong with them? Not really. In our tests we found that they don’t do the best job drowning out background noise. The higher end Bose headphones and earbuds are designed specifically for these purposes, which is why they cost a pretty penny. While the Apple earbuds are fairly rugged, we’ve broken a few pairs over the years that we’ve owned iPods.

Apple iPod In-Ear Earbuds

Apple In-Ear EarbudsThe Apple In-Ear Earbuds are a small step up from the standard earbuds included with your iPod as they go deeper into your ear and drown out more of the background noise. We found that over an extended amount of time they got to be a little uncomfortable, but these headphones provide great sound, nice bass and treble, at a reasonable price. We haven’t had these earbuds long enough to know if they last any longer than the standard iPod earbuds.

Bose In-Ear Earbuds

Bose EarbudsThe Bose In-Ear earbuds are definitely a step up from the Apple branded earbuds, featuring the Bose’s proprietary TriPort acoustic headphone structure! Right away you’ll notice that they’re nice and soft, which as a result makes them more comfortable over extended listening sessions. The sound quality is top notch, and they block out a little more background noise than the Apple earbuds. These earbuds come with three different sized tips, which helps if you have a small ear or a big ear. Be careful that you don’t lose them though!

If you’ve got $100 to spend on some headphones, then we definitely recommend the Bose In-Ear Earbuds. If you’ve got $159 to spend on earbuds, then you might want to check out the holy grail of earbuds and go with the Bang & Olufsen A8 Headphones.

Bose Triport Headphones

Bose Triport HeadphonesEven though these may be the low end Bose headphones, there is nothing low end about these! These headphones are a lot smaller than the big, bulky headphones we’re used to from the days of Walkmans. At just $139 they are cheaper than a lot of the high end Sony headphones. For years we wanted to test these headphones out because we heard such good things about them, and now we know why. They provide better sound than any earbud can produce and better sound than most headphones for that matter! They’re very soft and we’re great for us during long jam-out sessions with our iPods! There’s nothing bad to be said about these headphones.

Bose QuietComfort 3 Noise Cancelling Headphones

Bose QuietComfort 3 HeadphonesThese headphones are absolutely amazing! The price tag may scare off a lot of people, but if you’re like us and travel frequently then these headphones are everything you’ve ever wanted. What finally drove us to buy a pair of these headphones was a cross country flight with two crying babies in our area. If you want to completely drown out background noise you won’t find a better headphone. It’s amazing what these headphones can do. Crying babies and jet plane engines are no match for the Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones. These headphones are a little bulky, but for the features that these things have, we don’t mind. It’s a little weird that you have to charge these headphones every 20 hours (of use) or so, but if that’s what it takes for peace and quiet, then it’s a small price to pay.

We love Bose and these headphones remind us why. On a scale of 1 to 10, we give these headphones an 11!

If your looking for a place to buy any of these earbuds/headphones or want to read more reviews, check out Amazon.com.

This Spring’s Hottest Apple Products

What’s hot with Apple right now? The AppleTV. It’s everywhere! Every electronics site on the internet is talking about it. We had the chance to check it out at Apple’s new New York City Apple Store and it was pretty cool. The monitors they had it hooked up to were super high res and most of the movies on there played back nicely. But the real reason there’s so much buzz around the AppleTV is because people are hacking the crap out of it! People are doing things we never would have thought of with it and have even turned it into a full fledged desktop computer. For $299 you can’t beat the price!

Just this week Apple introduced 8-core Mac Pro desktop workstations! That’s some serious processing power!

There’s also a lot of talk about Adobe’s release of Creative Suite 3 for OS X. We’re looking forward to finally having a Universal Binary version of Photoshop that runs natively on Intel CPUs. It took Adobe almost two years to port CS over to Intel! So for any kind of graphics work, you’ll see a huge improvement with CS3.

The iPod shuffle must be doing really well this Spring because I’m seeing it everywhere. They were flying off the shelves at the Apple Story in New York. If you don’t already have some sort of iPod, you should look into the iPod shuffle because it’s only $79 now and holds 1GB of music.
